Cabernet Sauvignon
The right climate in California gives the best results and it occupies a dominant position, which continues to build to this day. However, the other emerging regions should not be underestimated, and Oregon with its Pinot Noir deserves special attention. Perhaps the most interesting fact about this country, which plays a key role in establishing and positioning itself as a quality producer, is the blind tasting organised in Paris in 1976 by Stephen Spurrier, which involved selected wineries from California and France. To the great surprise of all attendees the first places in both red and white wines won the American representatives and this furore greatly contributed to the development of the Napa Valley and Sonoma as we see them today. The United States does not have a distinctive grape variety, but it works great with the French ones like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and others.
