Wine regions are generally the places where the cultivation of wine grapes is concentrated. Each region has its own specifics and focus, which distinguishes it from most (or even all others). Usually the regions are divided according to their terroir specifics, which have naturally determined the grape varieties grown in them, and often also the style of wine production. Knowledge of the regions generally helps the wine connoisseur to navigate easily through the complicated wine world and to chose wine, especially from the countries of the Old World, where wine labels do not provide information about the grape variety of the wine.
