The ancient Bulgarian variety Mavrud is particularly special to the oenologists of Rumelia, who have been creating remarkable wines from their own vineyard for years.

The colour of the wine, a deep ruby with violet hues, is only a prelude to the multilayered aroma with predominant accents of vine leaf, blackberries and small black fruits. Powerful, well-structured body with fine tannins and a fruity-spicy finish. The wine has good ageing potential.

Винарска изба Румелия е създадена през 2006 г. в Панагюрище. Един от най-ярките символи на града е световноизвестното Панагюрско златно съкровище – уникален паметник на древната тракийска цивилизация. Траките са се славели като прочути и изкусни майстори на вино, за което свидетелства още Омир. Винарите от Румелия казват, че високо ценят тези утвърдени традиции от миналото в изкуството и тайнството за правене на вино, но ги съчетават със съвремена техника и технология, за да предложат собствен стил и подчертан характер на своите вина. Избата разполага с подземна изба за бъчви, бутилираща линия, лаборатория, уютна дегустационна и неповторима атмосфера. Винарска изба Румелия преработва качествено грозде, събрало слънчевите лъчи на Златна Тракия – предпоставка и гаранция за високото ниво на предлаганите вина. Избата е оборудвана по модерна технология за производство на елитни червени вина, чиито стил и финес се дължат на стриктния контрол на качеството на всяка партида грозде. Капацитетът на избата е за преработка на 500-600 тона грозде годишно – за производството на 400-500 хиляди бутилки вино на година. Подземната изба разполага с бъчви от френски, американски и български дъб – с капацитет 1000 барици.

Thracian valley

In this region, which includes Southern Bulgaria, the climate is temperate continental protected from northern winds thanks to Stara Planina, with good rain distribution. It includes the central parts of the Thracian lowland and parts of Sakar. Most of the red grape varieties are concentrated in this area. Mavrud, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Muscat, Pamid and others are grown. The climatic conditions of the region favour the production of rich, dense, memorable red wines, especially from the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Mavrud. Good wines from the local variety Mavrud are especially valued for their aroma and taste of small red fruits, spices and herbs.

Mavrud

Mavrud is a dark-skinned grape variety of Bulgarian origin, widely planted in the Thracian valley, more precisely in the region of Asenovgrad. The grape’s name is derived from the Greek mavro, meaning black, and the wines it produces usually are of an inky colour. They also have pronounced tannins and excellent acidity, with stewed-fruit flavours on the palate with some herbal characteristics. It is no easy task to produce wine from Mavrud alone, but whoever succeeds creates a wine that certainly does not lack character.
