Remaining in the shadow of its more popular Rioja neighbours, Navarre can be a source of great finds, such as this charming grenache, or garnacha as the variety is known in Spain.
Old vines from the higher elevations of the region in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria are the secret to the fresh and concentrated aromas of ripe red fruits and spice, and the extra roundness and complexity is due to aging in old oak barrels, which do not, however, hide the full-bodied fruit profile.
Enjoy it lightly chilled on cool May evenings, either as an aperitif or paired with grilled meats and roasted vegetables.

Grenache
Grenache (Garnacha) is a red-wine grape grown extensively in France, Spain, Australia and the United States. Grenache is the French name for the grape, while in Spain it is known as Garnacha, and on the island of Sardinia they call it Cannonau. In France it is most commonly found in the classic Southern Rhone Blend ( it is the main grape variety in Chateauneuf-du-Pape) but also plays a main role in one of southern France's signature Rosè wine style in Provence. In Spain, Garnacha is the key constituent in the prestigious wines of Priorat.
